TIRUPUR: Muthur town panchayat executive officer Nandagopal was placed under suspension over irregularities in his work just two days before his retirement.
A senior official with the directorate of town panchayats said Nandagopal was involved in tax assessment for unapproved housing plot when he was working as Thirumuruganpoondi town panchayat executive officer on the outskirts of the city around five years ago.
“There are also other complaints pending against Nandagopal. So, he has been placed under suspension as per Section 17(b) of the
Tamil Nadu Civil Services (discipline and appeal) Rules,” the official said.
As directed by the director of town panchayats, the suspension order was served on Nandagopal on Saturday.
“Further action would be taken against him based on the gravity of the charges. For now, he won’t be able to avail retirement benefits,” the officer said.
Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan said the administration would soon take steps to fill the vacancies, including post of Muthur town panchayat executive officer.
