‘Men should be taught not to misbehave with women’
Crimes against women and children are on the rise in the city. Data available with the crime records bureau (CRB) of the city police show that a total of 161 cases of crime against women and children were reported in the city last year, compared to 139 in 2017. The city has seen 16 such cases this January alone.
Two rape cases were reported in 2018, while the city hadn’t reported any such case in 2017. As per the data, seven molestation cases, two kidnap cases and 10 domestic violence cases were reported in the city last year. This is besides 20 sexual abuse cases against children. At least 51 cases were registered last year under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act.

Likewise, we plan to conduct awareness among workingwomen at their work places,” said L Balaji Saravanan, deputy commissioner of police (law & order).
All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) district secretary A Radhika said the society was today misusing technology more than ever. “Hence, we are facing a lot of problems. Women should be very careful while using various mobile apps and social media. Otherwise, they will land in troubled waters. Men should be, meanwhile, taught not to misbehave with women.”
