COIMBATORE: The hornbill bird has been chosen as the election mascot of Coimbatore district. Collector and district election officer Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar unveiled the mascot -- named “Therthal Veeran” (election warrior) -- installed at the entrance of the collector's new building office on Wednesday.
The model is depicted as wearing a cotton baniyan and a silk dhoti with indelible ink marked on its finger.

Once the election dates are announced, the mascot would be displayed at crowded public places to create voter awareness, officials said.
