Maoists raise slogan in court in Kovan’s support

The four suspected Maoists – Roopesh, his wife Shyna and two accomplices Anoop Mathew George and Kannan – were produced before the principal district judge (PDJ) court here on Monday to extend their judicial custody. Judge R Pongiappan has extended the judicial custody till November 30. Roopesh raised slogans at the integrated court complex demanding release of folk singer Kovan who was arrested a few days ago on charges of sedition.

COIMBATORE: The four suspected Maoists – Roopesh, his wife Shyna and two accomplices Anoop Mathew George and Kannan – were produced before the principal district judge (PDJ) court here on Monday to extend their judicial custody. Judge R Pongiappan has extended the judicial custody till November 30. Roopesh raised slogans at the integrated court complex demanding release of folk singer Kovan who was arrested a few days ago on charges of sedition.

They were taken to the PDJ court from Coimbatore central prison on Monday. The defense counsel Balamurugan has requested the court to grant a few minutes for Shyna to meet her husband. Then the court granted five minutes to the couple to meet at the court hall.
Later, the four Maoists were taken back to Coimbatore central prison by the escort police. Roopesh raised slogans asking the state government to withdraw the National Security act registered against them.
He also demanded the release of folk singer Kovan and warned the government that they won’t be cowed down by the repressive attitude of the government. Kannan and Anoop also raised slogans along with Roopesh.
Another accomplice Veeramani was taken to Udupi in Karnataka by the Udupi police where he will be interrogated.
