Man arrested in Kerala for friend’s murder

Coimbatore: A 36-year-old man was arrested for beating his friend to death in a drunken brawl in September last. The police nabbed him from Kerala, where he had been working in different construction sites for the past six months.

The arrested was identified as Arumugam, 36, son of Krishnan, of Ashok Nagar in Kavundampalayam. The police had been looking for him in connection with the murder of M Sivabalan, a native of Pollachi. A construction worker, his skeletal remains were found inside a house on Keeranatham Road at Saravanampatti on September 21, 2017.

According to police, Sivabalan was an alcoholic and he moved to a rental house in Saravanampatti after fighting with his relatives. Inquiries revealed that Sivabalan had allowed Arumugam, also a construction worker, to stay with him.

On the fateful day, the duo consumed liquor together and picked up a quarrel. Sivabalan asked his friend to vacate the house. When the latter refused, Sivabalan beat Arumugam using a wooden log. In a fit of rage, Arumugam snatched the wooden log and beat Sivabalan to death, locked the house from outside and left the spot. tnn
