Man arrested for stabbing father-in-law to death

Tirupur: A 45-year-old man was arrested for killing his 55-year-old father-in-law following a petty quarrel at Uthukuli here on Saturday.

The accused was identified as R Balachandran of Thavaipalayam in Uthukuli. “He was staying with his wife Vanitha and their daughter in a rented house. Balachandran became unemployed after he lost an eye in a road accident a decade ago. Years ago, he had pledged a family property to secure a loan of Rs 1.2 lakh for Lalitha, the sister of his father-in-law P Sunderesan. But Lalitha returned only Rs 90,000. Balachandran used to quarrel with Sunderesan, who was living in the same street in Thavaipalayam, about the balance amount,” a police officer said.

On Saturday, Balachandran, in an inebriated state, quarrelled with Vanitha about the issue. “Sunderesan arrived at the couple’s house and scolded him. Balachandran, who was wielding a knife, threatened his father-in-law and stabbed him on his chest. Sunderesan died on the spot,” the officer added.
