Leopard attacks elderly man

UDHAGAMANDALAM: A 60-year-old man was seriously injured in a leopard attack near

Ooty

on Monday.

The victim, S Sundaram, was attacked around 8.30am while he was working on his field, police sources said. The man, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to the

Ooty Government Hospital

for treatment. He was later sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.

Forest department officials inspected the field. “We found evidence of the carnivore on the field. We are examining if Sundaram was attacked by a leopard or a sloth bear,” forest range officer C Shiva said.

“The victim’s land is located very close to the reserve forest area falling under the Nilgiris south division. Also, there are lots of overgrown bushes on the field,” the official said.
