History-sheeter arrested for stealing 104 sovereigns of gold from house in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A 48-year-old man was arrested by the city police on Thursday for stealing 104 sovereigns of gold from a private school teacher’s house in Kuniyamuthur near here.The arrested man, identified as S Krishnamoorthy, 48, of Ramanathapuram district, resides in Kannappa Nagar near Rathinapuri in the city. He is a driver. “We received the complaint about the gold burglary case at the house of R Jeba Martin, 56, at Iyyappa Nagar in BK near Kuniyamuthur in the city. A special team was formed to nab the culprit. The team analysed the CCTV footage and mobile phone location in the surrounding area. We got a clue that a similar type of a theft had taken place in the same area earlier. The accused used duplicate keys to open the house and wardrobe and stole the gold ornaments,” said deputy commissioner of police (south) G Karthikeyan.Following this, police traced his whereabouts and arrested him from his residence on Thursday. More than sovereigns of gold ornaments were recovered from him. Investigations were under way to recover the remaining ornaments.“He is facing burglary cases in Coimbatore, Chennai and Mumbai,” the DCP said. On Dec 25 night, Krishnamoorthy used duplicate keys, entered Jeba Martin’s house and stole gold jewels. Jeba went to her native place on Dec 24. She returned home on Dec 26 and found the gold ornaments missing.
