Coimbatore: Police have arrested a 28-year-old Kinathukedavu resident, who attempted to murder his wife by setting her on fire, after she lodged a police complaint against him.
The accused was identified as K Siva Kumar. “He had married the victim, S Nagammal, 27, six years ago. They used to quarrel frequently as Siva Kumar, who was addicted to alcohol, used a good portion of the family income to buy alcohol.
He had refused to give money to run the household,” a police officer said.
The situation forced a frustrated Nagammal to lodge a complaint against her husband at the All Women Police State (AWPS) in Perur a week ago. “Siva Kumar was called in for inquiry and we made an entry in the community service register (CSR). As the couple decided to get along, we closed the case,” the officer said.
But, an inebriated Siva Kumar reached the home on Tuesday evening and had a quarrel with his wife for filing the police complaint against him. The verbal quarrel gradually turned violent and he poured kerosene over Nagammal and set her on fire,” the officer told TOI. tnn
