DMK trying to project itself as not being anti-Hindu: Vanathi
Coimbatore: BJP leader and Coimbatore North candidate Vanathi Srinivasan on Tuesday said if DMK was adept at deceiving people, Kamal Haasan was acting as a supporting player in the plot."Kamal Haasan was rejected by voters in Coimbatore South in the last election. And he is here again seeking votes," she said. With only 48 hours left for voting, Vanathi said, DMK was trying to project itself as not being anti-Hindu. "Has DMK ever spoken positively about Hindu gods or temples?" Addressing the party cadres during the final phase of campaigning at Vadavalli roundabout, she said while defence industrial corridors were established in both Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the state had fallen behind during DMK regime, whereas UP had witnessed significant growth. She also accused DMK of attempting to "buy Coimbatore" using illicit funds. "They are paying Rs2,000 to Rs5,000 per vote." Addressing the media later on the day, Vanathi slammed V Senthilbalaji for misrepresenting Rs21,000 crore welfare claims for Coimbatore and sarcastically said that amount might have been "brought down" for distribution. Responding to a question on Mallikarjun Kharge calling Narendra Modi a "terrorist", she said the remark reflected the frustration of Congress party due to its lack of electoral success and prospects.
