Disabled people gather in city to exhibit their talents

Coimbatore: A large number of disabled people showcased their talents at the Inclusive Music and Art Street that was organized as part of the fourth Indian Congress for Persons with Disabilities at Prozone Mall here on Friday. Disabled people from across the country participated in the event. A mother of an autism-affected boy said similar events would help special children to come out and spend time with others without any restrictions. “Parents too feel happy to take part in such events, as they need not to worry about what others will think about their children,” she said. Akila Vaithiyanathan, founder of Amaze Charitable Trust, one of the organizers of the event, said the event was organized to increase the acceptability for disabled people in the community. T S Guruprasad, trustee of Swarga Foundation, another organizer, said a disabled-friendly vehicle was launched as part of the event. “The one launched in 2016 is helping 15 people every month. The vehicle has run 65,000km. This time a smaller vehicle is launched to move through smaller lanes,” he said. District collector Kranti Kumar Pati, city police commissioner V Balakrishnan and corporation commissioner M Prathap took part in the event.
