COIMBATORE: A cotton mill owner and his accomplice were arrested from Peelamedu for the abduction, confinement and torture of a Tirupur-based garment exporter for not settling the payment of Rs 30 lakh for raw cotton purchased from his mill on Wednesday. The victim was kept in solitary confinement at a godown near Peelamedu for five days and was physically assaulted and tortured by his captors.
"Our team traced him to a godown in Peelamedu and immediately rescued him," said ES Uma, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore. A Ravisharma (29), owner of Sri Vari Export Corporation in Perumanallur in Tirupur district was missing for the last five days. He owed more than Rs 30 lakh to K Palanisamy (59) a cotton mill owner and was trying to seek an extension to make the payment. Palanisamy was adamant that the payment should be made at the earliest but Ravisharma continued to evade him.
Palanisamy and his henchmen forcibly took him to their cotton godown in Peelamedu. He was kept confined in the godown and was repeatedly threatened and assaulted to make immediate payment of Rs 30 lakh. Based on a complaint, the police traced Ravisharma and rescued him.
