Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district collectorate on Wednesday received its 35th hoax bomb threat in recent months, prompting a high alert and searches.
According to an anonymous email sent to its official address, RDX explosives and poisonous gas had been planted on the premises and would be detonated during peak afternoon hours.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the K9 squad cordoned off the area and carried out extensive searches. After several hours, officials confirmed that the threat was a hoax. No suspicious object was found, and normal operations resumed.
Police officers said the repeated threats were likely being sent by a single individual or a small group using VPNs and encrypted email services. The exact motive had not yet been confirmed, they said.
