DHARMAPURI: A man was beaten to death by his younger brother in
Dharmapuri district in the early hours of Thursday over a property dispute.
The deceased has been identified as Samuthiraiyan, 40, of Molaiyanur. He was the mandal president of BJP in Molaiyanur village. The Pappireddipatti police arrested his younger brother, Satyanathan, 38, on murder charges. Both were married, police said.
Their father, Anbazhagan, 65, owns 10 acres of land in the area. Police said there were frequent disputes between the brothers over sharing their father’s property.
“It was alleged that Samuthiraiyan tried to cheat his younger brother by not giving him the rightful share of the property. He wanted to possess the entire property claiming that as the younger brother is living in Chennai. The brothers often had arguments," said a police official.
On Wednesday night, Satyanathan reached Molaiyanur from Chennai. There was a quarrel between brothers over sharing the property. They argued and attacked each other. Satyanathan hit Samuthiraiyan with a rod several times and killed him.
On being informed, Pappireddipatti police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
Satyanathan has been remanded in judicial custody.
