5,102 bottles of liquor seized near Coimbatore; three arrested
COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore district police on Tuesday seized 5,102 bottles of liquor in a raid near Annur and arrested three men.The Election Commission has declared a dry period from April 21 to 23 because of the assembly election in the state. Police have intensified vigilance to curb the illegal sale of liquor in the district.Acting on a tip-off, a special team first caught M Veeramani, 35, of Pudukkottai and K Kumar, 42, of Sivaganga from near a bakery in Annur with 200 bottles of brandy allegedly meant for illegal sale. During interrogation, the two told police that the main accused, P Kalimuthu, 48, of Tirupur, had stored a larger stock at a farmhouse in Kariyampalayam. Police then raided the farmhouse and recovered about 1,002 litres of liquor, including brandy, rum, beer and vodka.A case was registered at the prohibition enforcement wing police station in Periyanaickenpalayam.
