26-yr-old woman poisons disabled son, kills herself
Coimbatore: A 26-year-old woman poisoned her seven-year-old disabled son and killed herself by consuming pesticide at her residence at Thoppampatti near Thudiyalur here on Saturday early morning.
The deceased were identified as K Murugeswari, of Annamalai Nagar at Thoppampatti and her son K Sabarish, a Class I student of a private school for disabled.
Police said Murugeswari, a home maker, and her husband Kathirpandiyan, 40, had been staying in a rented house at Thoppampatti along with Sabarish, while their daughter stayed at her grandparent’s house near Thoppampatti. The couple had provided treatment to their son, but his condition didn’t improve and they were upset.
Kathirpandiyan, who owned a van, used to pick and drop school students in the morning and evening, leaving his wife and son at home. On Friday night, Kathirpandian returned home after work and went to bed. Murugeswari woke up at midnight and fed her son water laced with pesticide. She also consumed the pesticide.
On Saturday around 6am, Kathirpandiyan woke up and found his wife and son dead. He alerted the neighbours, who rushed to the spot and informed the police. The Thudiyalur police reached the spot and sent the bodies to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
The police have registered a case against Murugeswari under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and under Section 174 of the CrPC (unnatural death). After the postmortem, the bodies were handed over to the family members. Further investigation is on.
