COIMBATORE: A two year-old-girl fell into a ground level water tank along with her elder sister while playing at their house at Murugan Layout at Chinnampalayam near Pollachi on Thursday. Their mother had gone to the terrace to dry washed cloths and later found her two daughters inside the water tank. By the time she was able to rescue the girls, the two-year-old had suffocated to death.
The deceased has been identified as R Rakshana (2) of Chinnampalayam near Pollachi. Police said, Raju (30), an insurance agent and his wife Gokila (24) employed at a sweet shop in Pollachi had a three-and-a-half year-old daughter
Rohini and Rakshana. On Thursday, Raju had left for work and Gokila was washing clothes as her children played near the water tank.
When Gokila went to the terrace to dry the clothes, the children meanwhile fell into the water tank which had 3ft of water. Gokila returned after 20 minutes, and found her children missing. When she conducted a search, she found them in the water tank. She raised an alarm and neighbours rushed to help. While Rohini was unconscious, Rakshana was already dead. They were however taken to the local government hospital in Pollachi. Doctors declared Rakshana as brought dead. Rohini is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
After the postmortem, Rakshana's body was handed over to her parents on Friday afternoon. Mahalingapuram police have registered a case and an investigation is on.
