Woman hires men to kill husband’s murderer, arrested

CHENNAI: Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old woman from West

Mambalam

for planning the murder of history-sheeter M Baskar, who was killed in a Tasmac shop in Kancheepuram district on Sunday.


Police said Bhuvaneshwari hired a few men to kill Baskar to avenge the murder of her husband Kandan last year.

Five people had previously surrendered in the Egmore court in connection with the case. The surrendered were identified as G Manimaran, 29, of Perungudi, R Venkatesan, 30, of

, A Musariputhan, 38, of Thuraipakkam, K Anandakumar, 42, of Perungudi and Saleem Gilani, 29, of Kottivakkam.

Baskar was hacked to death in a Tasmac bar in

Arambakkam

near Padappai on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was a murder suspect who had been trying to turn over a new leaf. He was employed as a painter and is survived by his wife and two children, police said.

The gang had observed that Baskar was a regular visitor to the Tasmac shop on Sundays. They struck up a conversation with him at the shop and shared a drink together, police said. When the group was about to leave, the gang pulled out knives, hacked the man to death and escaped. The Manimangalam police had registered a murder case. On Tuesday, the suspects surrendered before the Egmore magistrate court.

During an informal inquiry, police were told that Bhuvaneshwari had planned the murder.
