THANJAVUR: A 38-year-old woman who gave birth to a boy at her house in Pattukottai died of bleeding at a government hospital on Saturday. Meanwhile, police are investigating the discovery of the infant's body in a bucket in suspicious circumstances.
Police said S Vasanthi already had three daughters and two sons. Vasanthi got pregnant again and developed labour pain on Saturday. Subsequently, relatives admitted her to a government hospital in Pattukottai where she died of bleeding.
However, the relatives took her body home without completing formalities or informing the hospital authorities. Suspecting foul play, doctors informed Pattukottai Town police.Police conducted an inquiry with Vasanthi's family when they found the body of the baby boy dumped in a bucket with a coir rope tied around its neck. Police said they also found a piece of cloth stuffed in its mouth. Case registered under section 174 IPC and further investigations were on.
