Chennai: A woman police constable and her one-year-old child were killed when a truck hit their bike near

, 26 of Panapakkam, after finishing her work at the Siva Kanchi police station, called up her husband Raja, 30, to pick her up. She asked him to bring their one-and-half-year-old child too.
The trio started for their home on their bike on the

Chennai-Bengaluru

national highway. When they reached Baluchettychatram, a speeding truck swerved and hit two cars, and subsequently their bike.
Due to the impact, the constable and her husband were thrown away along with the kid. Umadevi and Dharshan, the child, sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot, while Raja escaped with minor injuries.
The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped. A case has been registered.
