VELLORE: A 65-year-old woman was raped by a drunk man in Tirupattur district of
Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as G Raghul, 30, who was unmarried and lived with his parents in Aarikhan Nagar near Jolarpet.
On Tuesday night, Raghul reached home drunk. His father locked him up inside a room.
After 1am on Wednesday, he managed to escape from the room by breaking the ventilator.
Around 1.30am, Raghul barged into the home of his neighbour Rani (name changed) and raped her. The woman is a widow and has two sons. One of her sons lives elsewhere while her other son, who is suffering from learning difficulties, stays with her. He was sleeping when in the crime happened.
Before Raghul could escape, Rani locked him inside the house and alerted the Jolarpet police.
Inspector at Jolarpet police station A Palani Muthu, said, “Officials from station rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. She was admitted to Tirupattur Government Hospital for treatment.”
Palani added that Raghul was arrested and booked under Section 376 (Punishment for sexual assault) of the IPC and further investigations were on.
R Vinayagam, a villager, said, "Raghul had several sexual misconduct allegations against him. A few villagers say that he had unnatural sex with livestock after abducting them.”
Six months ago, he attempted to
rape a north Indian woman while she was alone at her home with baby. He is facing a case in connection with this.
