CHENNAI: Shankar Jiwal, who took charge as the head of the
Tamil Nadu police on Friday, said his priorities include enhancing the functioning of the force by introducing new technologies.
Addressing journalists after taking charge at the police headquarters here, Jiwal said the law-and-order situation in the state is reasonably good. “By introducing new technologies, we will enhance the law-and-order situation further,” he said.
“In the past two years, the number of deaths on city roads has come down. We will identify the
accident hotspots and try to reduce it further. Apart from this, the Chennai police have introduced many new schemes. We will try to implement these schemes throughout the state,” he added.
Earlier, the former DGP, C Sylendra Babu, was given a grand farewell at the state police headquarters. Police personnel pulled his car for a distance of 20 feet with a rope, a customary ritual for retiring senior IPS officers. The government also held a farewell parade for him at the RR Stadium in Egmore.
