Regulatory Approval in Place

The decision follows formal approval for progressive closure from Anna University and the All India Council for Technical Education, ensuring the process complies fully with academic regulations.

Merger With Shiv Nadar University Chennai

The college will be merged in phases with Shiv Nadar University Chennai, which operates on the adjacent campus. Academic programmes will gradually shift under the university framework.

An update on the college website clearly states: “SSN College of Engineering is no longer accepting applications. Students are advised to apply to the SSN School of Engineering at Shiv Nadar University Chennai for similar programmes.”

What Happens to Current Students

As of now, over 4,800 students, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars, are enrolled at SSN College. All existing students will continue their studies without disruption.

Degrees Will Remain Unchanged

​

Students currently enrolled will receive their degrees from Anna University, as the closure is progressive. There will be no forced migration or loss of academic status for any batch.

No New Admissions From 2026–27

From the 2026–27 academic year onward, no fresh admissions will be taken at SSN College of Engineering. This applies to UG, PG, and research programmes.

New Admission Route for Aspirants

Students seeking BTech or MTech admissions will need to apply to the SSN School of Engineering at Shiv Nadar University Chennai, where selection will be based on an entrance test and interview, not Class XII marks alone.

Fees: Big Difference Explained

​

At SSN College, government-quota students paid around ₹55,000 per year.
In contrast, BTech tuition at Shiv Nadar University Chennai is approximately ₹3.5 lakh per year. However, the university has assured that current SSN students will continue paying fees as per their original batch norms, with no revisions.

Faculty & Academic Rules Stay​

The college has assured that faculty members will continue teaching until the last batch graduates. Existing Anna University academic regulations, including rules on arrears and backlogs, will remain applicable even after the final admissions cycle ends.​
