Chennai: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday conducted TVK govt’s first cabinet meeting on Friday where he reviewed 436 projects and schemes.
State electricity minister R Nirmal Kumar told reporters after the meeting that Vijay discussed about ways and means to implement key poll promises of TVK. Vijay had instructed ministers to function in an efficient manner `to deliver a corruption-free and clean govt.’
The hour-long meeting, which began at 10am, also focused on the Governor’s forthcoming Assembly address and measures to streamline governance across departments. Nirmalkumar said projects and schemes relating to individual departments were assigned to the respective ministers for further action. “As many as 436 projects and schemes, including the party’s poll promises, were discussed in the cabinet meeting. Each minister has been given projects and schemes concerning their respective departments,” he said.
He said the discussions centred on achieving a corruption-free and drug-free Tamil Nadu while meeting the aspirations of youngsters and women. “In the industries department alone, 37 projects were discussed and assigned to the ministry for taking them forward. The CM has instructed ministers to hold discussions with officials of the concerned departments and prepare detailed reports to achieve the targets,” Nirmalkumar said.
Replying to a question on Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu project, the minister said the Tamil Nadu govt would take all legal steps to oppose it. “We will take all legal actions to thwart the Mekedatu project,” he said.
ASSEMBLY SESSION ON JUNE 18. Speaker J C D Prabhakar, later in the day, told the mediapersons that the TN assembly would commence on June 18 with Governor’s speech. The duration of the session would be determined by the Business Adivsory Committee.
