L Murugan and some party workers were arrested near
Lord Murugan
temple at
Tiruttani
when they were taking out the
Vetrivel Yatra
. The Tamil Nadu government had not given permission for the yatra citing Covid-19.
The Tiruvallur district police, led by superintendent of police P Aravindhan, stopped Murugan and BJP workers near the Tiruttani bus terminus. The cops told the BJP leader that they could not allow them as there was no permission for the yatra.
The police arrested Murugan and the party cadre.
Earlier, the Chennai city police stopped around 100 BJP workers who tried to proceed from the city to Tiruttani in separate vehicles to participate in party’s Vetrivel Yatra.
In the morning, Murugan told reporters that the party was taking out the Vetrivel Yatra as scheduled as Lord Murugan had granted “permission” for it.
