TVK’s victory not a ‘tsunami’, did not win in 8 districts: PMK
Chennai: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday said chief minister C Joseph Vijay winning the election cannot be considered a ‘tsunami' of people's support as TVK had lost all the seats in eight districts in TN. "People of the state were in the mindset for a change in Tamil Nadu and we have to respect the voters who voted for TVK. At the same time, we don't agree that it is a tsunami," said Anbumani who chaired a meeting of PMK functionaries in Chennai. "If it were a tsunami, TVK should have won more than 160 seats but he could win only 108 seats, falling short of a majority. Also, TVK didn't win a single seat in eight districts out of 38," the PMK chief said. What happened in 1991 and 1996 were real tsunamis, Anbumani said. PMK won four seats out of the 18 they contested.Nevertheless, Anbumani appreciated Vijay's gesture of visiting leaders after his poll victory. "We both spoke alone for 30 minutes. I wished him for the change that he brought in Tamil Nadu after 60 years. I told him that I took an unsuccessful step towards change in 2016,'' Anbumani said. He said he asked Vijay to conduct a caste survey. "I explained to him the importance of a caste census for 10 minutes," Anbumani said.
