Tuticorin port sets record in single day handling of cargo

has yet again set a new record for the highest volume of cargo handled in a single day. It handled 53,260 metric tonne of

limestone

from the vessel MV Johanna Oldendorff on February 21, breaking the earlier record of 50,118 metric tonne of limestone from the same vessel on November 16, 2017.

During the last financial year, VOC Port handled 11,09,486 metric tonne of limestone and this year the port handled 11,87,836 metric tonne till January 2018.

Limestone is being imported through Tuticorin port predominantly to use it as a raw material in cement and paper industry here. Limestone mostly comes from countries like Oman, Iran, Malaysia, Philippines and the UAE.
