TN woman murdered by father, stepmother and others

district of Tamil Nadu arrested four people on Saturday for murdering a woman. The arrested included the woman’s father, stepmother and the stepbrother. They murdered the

woman

as they thought she had brought disgrace to the family by marrying another man after her separation from her first husband.


The murdered woman has been identified as Meena, 21. She was the daughter of Sudalaimuthu, 42, of Thathankulam village from his first marriage.

Following the demise of Meena’s mother Kaliammal, Sudalaimuthu married Mupidathi and the couple have a son, Mayandi, 20.

Meena married Isakkipandi of Kalvai village near Thathankulam a few years ago, and they have a four-year-old son. The couple got separated about a year ago. The son lived with his father.

Meena remarried Muthu of Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district around 10 months ago. They lived in Tirunelveli district.

On Friday, Meena went to Thathankulam to take part in a village temple festival. Late in the evening, she was in her aunt’s house when her father, stepmother Mupidathi, stepbrother Mayandi, Sudalaimuthu’s sister-in-law Veerammal and her son Murugan reached there.

An argument broke out between Meena and her kin. Sudalaimuthu and Mayandi attacked her with machetes they had brought with them. After murdering her, the accused fled the scene.

The Seithunganallur police retrieved the body and sent it to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for postmortem. They registered a murder case against all the five accused.

On Saturday, the police arrested Sudalaimuthu, Mayandi, Mupidathi and Veerammal.
