TN polytechnic student ends life after being teased by classmates over his ‘feminine behaviour’

A 17-year-old polytechnic student, who appeared upset after his classmates teased him over his ‘feminine behaviour,’ committed suicide by setting himself on fire near in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, police said.

TRICHY: A 17-year-old polytechnic student, who appeared upset after his classmates teased him over his ‘feminine behaviour,’ committed suicide by setting himself on fire near in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as R Ashok Raj of Katrampatti. He was studying in a polytechnic college at Alangudi.
Police said Ashok Raj had refused to go to college for the past one week.

When the parents asked him the reason, he told them that his classmates had been teasing him. However, the parents didn’t take it seriously and asked him to go to college.
On Sunday, he attempted suicide at home by pouring kerosene on his body and setting himself on fire. But his parents managed to save him.
On Monday night, when his parents were fast asleep, he left home carrying kerosene in bottle. He committed self-immolation about half a kilometre away from home.
The Vadakadu police recovered his charred body and sent it for postmortem. They registered a case and began investigations.
