CHENNAI: A day after the body of a college student, who was also a police informant, was found, police arrested three people, including a

history-sheeter

, in connection with the incident.

The arrested trio told police that the student was killed as he turned out to be a police informant. They were remanded in Puzhal prison after being produced before a magistrate court.

The deceased man, identified as B Deepak Raj, 24, a resident of Palanthandalam near

Sriperumbudur

, was found murdered near Erumaiyur social forest area amid bushes on April 23.

Earlier, the victim had informed his parents that he would return home after attending his friend's marriage at

Kundrathur

on April 22, though he did not.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that an anti-social, Senthamil Selvan, 24, of Palanthandalam, and two of his associates Bharath, 20, and Vimalraj, 25, both residents of Erumaiyur, took Deepak Raj to Erumaiyur, where they consumed liquor.

Following a quarrel, Senthamil Selvan and his friends murdered Deepak Raj.

Senthamil Selvan had murdered a person called Vijayan, also a resident of Palanthandalam, last year and was remanded in prison.

As Vijayan's friends and relatives were searching for Senthamil Selvan's hideout to eliminate him to avenge Vijayan's murder, Senthamil Selvan suspected Deepak Raj to be an informant and killed him.
