Technical training centre opened for disabled children

CHENNAI: The Rotary Club of Madras (RCM) has dedicated a technical training centre exclusively for the disabled on its Boy’s Town campus near Gummidipoondi.


Ravindra Sannareddy, MD, Sri City inaugurated the project, which was established in collaboration with Worth Trust, in the presence of RCM’s president Mohan Raman, Rtn J Sridhar, district governor, Rtn, Ranjit Pratap, and project chairman Rtn Ravi Sundaresan.

The centre is housed in a 4,500 square feet building constructed on a 2.55 acres plot. It has all requisite machinery, tools, other fixed and movable infrastructure, and 10 residential units for the stay of students, It has been established at an investment of Rs 5.5 crore.

The centre will begin with a two-year turner and machinist residential course, a one-year sewing and cutting technology course and a smart phone service course for six months. All courses will be certified by the National Council for Vocational Training under the Directorate of General Training, New Delhi.

On the occasion, Mohan Raman briefly explained the efforts that were put during the past four to five years for realising the project. Ravi Sannareddy offered his full support and cooperation, and assured job opportunities to the trainees in Sri City after successful completion of the course.
