TIRUNELVELI: The Palayamkottai police in Tirunelveli arrested six people on charges of murdering a 25-year-old man on Wednesday night as the man allegedly eve-teased the wife of one of the accused.
The victim was identified as M Esakki Muthu, 25, a construction worker of
Thimmarajapuram
in Palayamkottai.
Preliminary inquiries by the police revealed that he eve-teased the wife of Sundarapandian, 39, of the same locality. Sundarapandian warned Muthu to stop it and warned of dire consequences, but the latter ignored him.
On Wednesday night, Muthu was talking with his brother M Serman, 39, near the Vinayagar Temple in Thimmarajapuram when a gang armed with machetes attacked Muthu.
Serman also suffered injuries while trying to save his brother.
Gang members besides Sundarapandian were identified as Manickaraja, 25,
Sriram Kumar
, 23, and
Muthu Kumar, 39, of Thimmarajapuram and
Palani
, 20, and Nambi, 25, of Melapattam.
