Tamil Nadu polls: MK Stalin slams EPS for ‘silence mode’ on BJP ‘atrocities’
RAMANATHAPURAM: Chief minister M K Stalin on Sunday accused AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami of going into ‘silent mode’ on the questions over ‘atrocities of BJP.’ Stalin demanded EPS to explain his stand on Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Campaigning in Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district and later at Tuticorin on Sunday, Stalin sought to know the position taken by EPS on three-language poli-cy and delimitation as well.
“BJP govt is seeking to penalise southern states like Tamil Nadu for their growth by reducing their representation in the Lok Sabha through delimitation. Does Edappadi Palaniswami have the courage to question the BJP? Whenever he is asked to speak against the Centre’s actions, he goes silent. He switches off when it comes to criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi or union home minister Amit Shah,” Stalin said.
Stalin also hit out EPS on the three-language policy and uniform civil code. “BJP ministers come here to campaign for the three-language policy. Has Palaniswami ever condemned it? What is the stand of Palaniswami on UCC? Why is he silent on it?” Stalin questioned.
He then targeted Modi, demanding the action he has taken to prevent arrest of TN fishermen by Sri Lankan armed forces. “Modi, who claims to have stopped the Russia – Ukraine war and scared USA, becomes silent when he speaks about Sri Lanka. If he thought that Tamil Nadu fishermen are Indian fishermen, would he remain silent? What has BJP done for our fishermen?” Stalin asked.
Recalling the IPL match between Chennai and Delhi that he watched on his way to campaign, Stalin said, “Like the match result, Chennai team (DMK) will win over Delhi team (BJP).”
At Tuticorin, Stalin at-tacked EPS for his remarks that he got to know about Sterlite firing only from TV news. “The then chief secretary and police officials were giving him regular updates. Palaniswami knew everything about anti-Sterlite firing,” Stalin said. He also alleged that EPS attempted to protect perpetrators of Sathankulam lockup deaths.
Hours before Stalin’s visit to Tuticorin, TVK functionary Ajitha Agnel, who created a flutter by blocking Vijay’s car at Panayur few months back, joined DMK in the presence of DMK MP Kanimozhi.
Earlier in the day, he went for a walk through a busy stretch in Paramakudi and visited a few house, seeking votes for DMK. At a weaver’s house, Stalin tried his hand at the handloom unit weaving a saree.
