NAMAKKAL: An election flying squad seized 100 new saris at Tiruchengode in Namakkal district in the early hours of Saturday. The saris were allegedly meant to be distributed as gifts to voters by DMK members.
The flying squad acted on a complaint to the Namakkal district election control room that a large cardboard box was being used for gift distribution in Pavadi Street. Flying squad-1 officer Vetrivel, along with assistant inspector Srinivasan and others, conducted a check.
On seeing the flying squad, DMK members abandoned the saris and fled. The squad seized 100 saris, worth around Rs 40,000, and handed them over to Tiruchengode revenue divisional officer and returning officer Lenin.
The Tiruchengode town police registered a case against DMK ward member V Dinesh, 41, and began investigations.
