CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu govt has reconstituted the state backward classes commission with retired Madras high court judge Justice V Bharathidasan as its head. The commission's tenure will be three years.
An order to this effect was issued by the BC, MBC and minorities welfare department.
The commission includes retired bureaucrats T S Rajasekar, A P Mahabharathi and K Megraj as members. IAS officer S Natarajan will serve as a part-time member until April 30 of next year, after which he will become a regular member.
Other appointed members are P Mathiazhagan, former registrar of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, and S P Saravanan, an assistant professor at Nadar Mahajana Sangam S Vellaichamy Nadar College.
The commissioner of BC welfare will act as the member-secretary. The commissioner of MBC and denotified communities will serve as an ex-officio member. A key task for the commission will be to examine demands for internal quota within the MBC and DCs. This is in light of observations made by the Supreme Court in the vanniyar quota case in 2022. The commission will have to furnish a report to the state govt.
