COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit inspected the Gandhipuram

bus stand

in Coimbatore on Wednesday morning and took part in a cleaning drive there as part of the

initiative.

He swept the bus bays and removed wastes from there.

The governor inspected e-toilets in the bus stand which were installed by the Coimbatore Corporation.

Entry of town buses into the bus stand had been restricted for nearly 40 minutes causing trouble to students and people going for work.

Earlier, the governor had inspected a newly constructed public toilet near the bus stand.

Later, Purohit and minister for municipal administration S P Velumani visited a residential society -- Sunnyside Residency -- behind Fun Republic Mall. He took a look at the solid waste management system installed in the society and interacted with children there.

He held a discussion with NGOs and resident welfare associations working on solid waste management in the city.

Speaking at the discussion, Purohit said, "I have carried out visits in Maharashtra and I felt they (people in that state) were the best in maintaining toilets and waste management. Now when I visit cities in Tamil Nadu I have changed my opinion."

Lauding the efforts of the city in Swachh Bharat Mission, the governor said, "You will soon become the cleanest city in the country."

He congratulated the officials of the Coimbatore Corporation and the district administration for its initiatives.
