MADURAI: A 57-year-old farmer suffered injuries when a bear attacked him while he was in his farmland in Theni district of
Tamil Nadu on Saturday morning.
Muthumani, 57, of Arasaradi village was staying in his farmland located a few km away from his house. The farmland is near Varusanadu forest range. He planted cashew and silk-cotton trees on his land.
On Saturday morning, Muthumani went around his land and spotted a bear.
The bear pounced on him and attacked him on his face, hands and stomach.
Other farmers rushed to his help. He suffered grievous injuries and was rushed to Theni Medical College Hospital. After first aid, he was shifted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
Forest officials conducted an inquiry. They said bears could be occasionally spotted in Varusanadu. However, incidents of man-animal conflict were quite rare, they added.
