Tamil Nadu elections: CM MK Stalin files nomination, declares assets of Rs 6.2cr
CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin on Monday filed his nomination to contest in Kolathur constituency, seeking a fourth consecutive term from the north Chennai constituency, largely populated by working-class voters.
Stalin has declared assets worth Rs 6.2 crore, with movable property accounting for Rs 3.3 crore. Neither Stalin nor his wife Durga Stalin own a car or a bike. The chief minister had declared assets worth Rs 7.1 crore in his affidavit filed during 2021 election.
After filing the papers, Stalin held a road show on his red and black jeep, greeting people who had gathered on either side of the road. Stalin told reporters that he will win with a much higher margin than the previous election. “I am witnessing unprecedented support in Kolathur this time. People here will give me a resounding victory,’’ he said. The support was a sign that DMK front would win more than 200 seats across the state, he said, adding that this election was a fight against New Delhi for the rights of Tamil Nadu.
He also released a booklet on his contribution to the development of Kolathur, which was distributed to public. The 185-page booklet titled ‘Namma Kolathur, Namma Mudhalvar’ (our Kolathur, our CM) detailed the projects implemented by Stalin in the last five years.
In the evening, Stalin hosted a tea party for leaders of the DMK front at Anna Arivalayam, the party DMK headquarters in Chennai. Speaking at the event, Stalin said the alliance which faced its first election in 2019 has grown stronger.
“Nowhere in the entire country, an alliance has existed for so many years,’’ he said, noting that unlike other alliances which are formed for seat sharing, ideology was the foundation for Secular Progressive Alliance.
