CHENNAI: Tension prevailed in
Villivakkam
on Tuesday morning after two drunk police personnel verbally abused locals following a birthday celebration.
D Yuvaraj, 28, a resident of Villivakkam, a Grade - II constable attached to the third battalion of
Tamil Nadu Special Police, invited his friend S Jegadeesh, 27, a constable attached to the fifth battalion, to celebrate the former's birthday.
As the duo created nuisance around 12.30 am on their terrace, the neighbours confronted them.
In return, the two allegedly verbally abused the women.
The neighbours alerted the local police control room, who later took the duo to the police station. While a formal complaint was received against them, the complainants allege they were indirectly threatened to withdraw it.
A senior police officer said they did not receive any formal complaint yet, but an inquiry has been ordered.
