TIRUVARUR: A havildar from the Border Security Force (BSF), who died in Jammu and Kashmir, was laid to rest at his native place near

Tiruvarur

in Tamil Nadu with full military honours on Sunday.


Thirumoorthi had sustained a bullet injury after his gun misfired while he was cleaning it on July 25. He was then taken to a military hospital, from where he was referred to another hospital in Udhampur. However, the BSF Jawan died on July 31.

Thirumoorthi joined the forces at his young age, 21, and served for the nation.

Earlier on Saturday, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami condoled the death S Thirumoorthi (47).
He also announced that a family member of the deceased would be provided with a government job based on their qualification. DMK leader MK Stalin also in a statement paid homage to the soldier.

His body was brought to his native place at Pullavarayankudikadu in Tiruvarur district early on Sunday.

Thirumoorthi is survived by his wife T Tanizharasi, daughter T Akalya, 24, and son T Agathiyan.
