‘Speed up interlinking of Godavari, Cauvery’

Chennai: The state government on Friday urged the

Union

government to expedite interlinking of the

Godavari

and the Cauvery.The request was made during a meeting convened by the Union jal shakti ministry in New Delhi. It was announced in the Union budget that draft detailed projects of the five links, including Godavari-Krishna, Krishna-Pennar and Pennar-Cauvery had been finalised. The Centre would provide support for implementation once consensus is reached among the beneficiary states. “The meeting was amicable. Tamil Nadu government urged the Centre to implement the link as soon as possible,” an official source said. The state government also made a presentation at the meeting which was chaired by jal shakti secretary Pankaj Kumar. Tamil Nadu government was represented by water resources secretary Sandeep Saxena.
