Smoke from abandoned bag triggers panic among passengers in Chennai railway station

Tension prevailed at the Tambaram Sanatorium railway station in Chennai on Tuesday when commuters noticed a smoke emanating from an abandoned bag on a platform.

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed at the Tambaram Sanatorium railway station in Chennai on Tuesday when commuters noticed a smoke emanating from an abandoned bag on a platform.
Railway Protection Force personnel were alerted and they in turn called the bomb squad.
Bomb squad personnel found 300 cellphone power banks and a partially burnt circuit board in the bag.

Police said the power banks caused the smoke.
Police said the black coloured bag was spotted by a passenger. The bag created panic among passengers.
Several suburban trains and a few incoming long distance trains were delayed due to the incident.
