CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Tuesday took suo motu note of the alleged inhumane means of inquiry of several suspects by assistant superintendent of police of Ambasamudram, Balveer Singh.

The SHRC has directed the investigation division of the commission to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report in six weeks.

Following complaints of the inhumane treatment of several accused by the ASP Balveer Singh, Tenkasi district collector Karthikeyan has initiated a probe and appointed Cheranmahadevi sub-collector Mohammed Sabeer Alam as the investigating officer (IO).

According to news reports, over 30 accused booked under the jurisdiction of the ASP have lost their teeth.

The probe by the sub-collector will examine the authenticity of videos being circulated on social media and details such as police personnel who were on duty and the version of the victims.
