CHENNAI: A day after the arrest of 23-year-old M Aakash who burned alive a 21-year-old techie who refused to marry him at Saraswathi Nagar, Adambakkam and left her mother and sister injured, he told police he turned violent as

she had refused to talk to him

over a

Skype

and that he grew suspicious on her.

Aakash, of Velachery said he had gone to the victim, S Indhuja’s home only to take back the mobile phone and the

SIM card

he had gave her on her birthday and to convince her mother for marrying their daughter, when an argument broke out.

He also took along a can of petrol to threaten her that he would commit suicide. The man who confessed to having murdered Indhuja told the police that they used to talk over Skype and that for the past one week she refused to come online. “Since he found the data balance going down from her mobile, he grew suspicious whether her parents had fixed an alliance and that she was talking to him over skype,” said an investigating officer.

On Monday night, Indhuja’s mother Renuka reportedly tried to convince him to go back home but he refused to do so. During an argument that broke out, Indhuja told him that he should earn atleast ₹30,000 a month to earn a living and cannot remain jobless.

Aakash, who was restless, doused himself with petrol and also poured the fuel on her. As she ran to bedroom, he lit the lighter and threw it on the trail which engulfed Indhuja in the bedroom.

Aakash did his schooling with Indhuja and came to her house frequently.

Meanwhile, police obtained statements from Renuka and Nivedha, when they were at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

Police are likely to take him to custody.
