Sexual harassment row: Government transfers woman SP

CHENNAI: A woman superintendent of police who lodged a sexual harassment complaint against an inspector-general of police was among 16 IPS officers transferred by the state government on Tuesday.
Additional director-general of police (ADGP) Su Arunachalam, who was posted as special officer of refugees’ camp at Mantapam in Ramanathapuram, has returned to the city as the special officer in the TNSTC.

He is one of the members of the committee formed under the Vishaka guidelines to probe the SP’s sexual harassment complaint.
Director-general of police (DGP) TK Rajendran has nominated senior IPS officers – additional directorsgeneral of police (ADGP) Seema Aggarwal and Su Arunachalam, and deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) Thenmozhi – to the committee.
Retired additional superintendent of police Saraswathi and an administrative officer in the DGP office Ramesh will be the other two members. The case will be probed as per the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee’s first meeting will be held at the state crime records bureau (SCRB) office in Foreshore Estate on Thursday.
A senior police officer said, “In the first circular issued last week, ADGP of SCRB Seema Agarwal was listed as the head of the committee. As there was no male officer in the committee, ADGP Su Arunachalam’s name was included in the second circular along with Agarwal. There is a separate committee for the DGP office, which is led by the inspector-general of police, headquarters, Vidya Kulkarni.”
