Samayam Tamil poll: BJP running 'benami' government in Tamil Nadu

With less than a month left before Tamil Nadu goes to poll for the Lok Sabha and assembly by-elections on April 18, Samayam Tamil tried to capture people's opinion on several issues, which are likely to impact the voting trends in the state.
Majority of the voters, who participated in the poll, believe that Edapaddi K Palaniswamy-led AIADMK government in the state is a 'benami' government run by the Centre and the Bharatiya Janata Party.About 84 per cent of the participants said that the central government was interfering in the functioning of the state government. | Read this story in Tamil
About 76 per cent of the participants feel that the current state government has left behind the values and guiding principles laid down by former chief minister late J Jayalalithaa, whereas only 18 per cent respondents felt the other way round and remaining six per cent did not reply. | Read in Telugu
CRIME RATE AFTER JAYALALITHAA'S DEATH
Seventy-five per cent of the participants feel that crime rate in Tamil Nadu has gone up considerably after the demise of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
UNEMPLOYMENT
Seventy-three per cent of the participants are of the opinion that there has been a spike in unemployment rate in the state after the death of former CM late J Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016.
AIADMK-PMK ALLIANCE
About 79 per cent of the voters in the survey said that AIADMK-PMK alliance is a 'mutually benefiting' alliance and it will will never help people if they win the elections.
BYPOLL ON ONLY 18 ASSEMBLY SEATS
A whopping 89 per cent of the participants feel that the Election Commission's announcement of polling only on 18 assembly seats was unfair. At present a total of 22 assembly seats are lying vacant in the state.
POLLACHI SEXUAL ABUSE CASE
About 71 per cent of the participants are of the opinion that the Pollachi sexual abuse issue has brought a bad name to the current AIADMK government in the state and could be a major factor at the hustings.
NEET EXAM, GST
About 72 per cent of the respondents feel that change in the state government's stance over issue like National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and GST post-Jayalalithaa's demise was wrong and it will impact the party's prospects in the forthcoming elections. Significantly, late Jayalalithaa was against NEET or any other kind of common entrance exam for medical admissions as it would favour urban students. However, 21 per cent felt that Tamil Nadu government's support to the implementation of NEET and GST was a right move.
CASH DISTRIBUTION
About 59 per cent of the participants feel that decision of handing over the cash to people will have no impact on the voters, but 33 per cent said that the move will increase AIADMK's vote bank.
FARMERS' ISSUES
Eighty-three per cent of the respondents feel that the current AIADMK government has failed to address the farmers' issues.
Currently, the 234-member-Tamil Nadu state Legislative Assembly has only a sitting strength of 212 as 22 seats are lying vacant.
