CHENNAI: Senior Dravidian leader and film maker R M Veerappan died in a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday. He was 97.Veerappan, who was late Tamil Nadu chief minister M G Ramachandran’s friend, was admitted to hospital on Sunday.Chief minister M K Stalin, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and others condoled the death of Veerappan.In a message posted on X, Stalin said he was shocked and sad to hear about the demise of leader of the Dravidian movement and MGR Kazhagam founder R M Veerappan. He extended his condolences to the family of Veerappan.Palaniswami said Veerappan had been a great support to MGR when he had founded AIADMK and had been the joint general secretary of the party during J Jayalalithaa’s time. “I extend my condolences to the family of Veerappan,” he said. Former chief minister O Panneerselvam, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan Dravida Kazhagam president K Veeramani, DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakant and AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran also extended their condolences.
