CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced compensation to the kin of Syed Mohammed, who was shot dead by a sub-inspector at the SP Pattinam police station in Ramanathapuram district on Tuesday. In a statement, chief minister O Panneerselvam expressed shock at the killing of Syed Mohammed by sub-inspector A Kalidoss and announced Rs 5 lakh from the chief minister's relief fund to the family of the victim.Syed was picked up by the SP Pattinam police to question him in connection with a petty case. "It was shocking to hear the death of Syed after he was shot by the sub-inspector during an inquiry," Panneerselvam said.Ramanathapuram police superintendent N M Mayilvahanan placed Kalidoss under suspension on Wednesday, and director general of police K Ramanujam on Thursday transferred the inquiry into the incident to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department.READ ALSO: Probe into Ramanathapuram police custody death transferred to CB-CID
