Police close case against Leena Manimekalai
Chennai: Closing the complaint filed by director Susi Ganesan against film maker Leena Manimekalai that her social media posts about him were due to personal vendetta, the Guindy all-women police directed both parties to settle their issues in civil courts where cases were filed. The inspector concerned signed the closure report based on the complaint filed by Ganesan against Leena for her posts in which she claimed she felt unsafe and it would be the director’s doing if something happened to her. Ganesan had filed a defamation suit against her before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet after she made #MeToo allegations .A year ago, a sessions court in Chennai had turned down Leena’s petition seeking transfer of the defamation suit to a different court after she alleged that she had been subjected to unfair treatment by the presiding officer of the court and had been made to wait till evening for no reason when she appeared for the hearing. Her passport was impounded by the Chennai regional passport officer in view of the pending criminal defamation complaint filed by Ganesan. The Madras high court quashed the order impounding the passport in December 2021.
