One more TN medical aspirant ends life on NEET eve

DHARMAPURI: A 20-year-old NEET aspirant in

Dharmapuri

district of Tamil Nadu ended his life by hanging on Saturday. This is the second suicide of a

medical aspirant

in Tamil Nadu on Saturday after a woman ended life in Madurai.

The deceased has been identified as

M Aadithya

of Sevathan Gounder Street at Illakiyampatty. He was preparing for NEET and supposed to appear for the exam at Sri Vidya Mandir Secondary School in Shevapet in Salem on Sunday.

The suicide came to light around 6pm when his parents -- Manivannan, 47 and Jayachitra, 40 -- returned home from Poosaripatty in Salem district. They found the main door closed from inside. They peeped through the window gaps and found their son hanging from the ceiling.

They alerted the Dharmapuri town police. The police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Aadithya was appearing for NEET for the second time as he did not get through it in the previous attempt in 2019.

When contacted by TOI, Dharmapuri police superintendent of police Pravesh Kumar said he was interacting with Manivannan and Jayachitra to get the exact reason for the youth’s death. “The reason for Aadithya’s extreme decision will be ascertained only after inquiry,” he said.

The Dharmapuri town police registered a case.

In the early hours of Saturday, Jothi Sri Durga, 19, who was preparing for NEET, ended her life by hanging in her home in Madurai.
